I’ve been elving hard in the workshop in recent weeks to build more @coldwatercoast ‘ers, some earning timely career changes for tree decorating. Limited numbers will be available exclusively this weekend at three pop-ups I’m doing:

Saturday, 12/6: @karl_the_store in Sausalito from 10-4
Sunday, 12/7: @artyhood_sf Castro Art Mart 11-4
Monday, 12/8: @thelaundromatsf Sip N Shop 4-9pm

I’ll have the full booth set up on Sunday (prints, cards, merch), a smaller setup at KARL with cards and prints (limited merch) and a micro setup at the laundromat with cards and these awesome coasters and ornaments.

I’ll be in the workshop building more for my website and possibly one more holiday show, but the above is the best bet to get them while they last!

Something interesting happened today.
A big swell sent residuals through the Golden Gate that lined up just right — forming a novel and fleeting wave a stone’s throw from where I’ll be setting up tomorrow night at the @westcoastcraft Night Market at Fort Mason (5pm-10pm).

I’ll call this one “Marina Green” and have some 8x10s with me tomorrow, along with other favorites from outside the Gate.

I call this one Two Martini Lunch. February 18, 2025, 11:22am PT.

The two-martini lunch might be a relic of mid-century power culture, but I’ve been hearing whispers of its return — especially in downtown SF. I like to think this old tradition might actually be the wave (get it 😉🤣) of the future.

This image, shot on a bright San Francisco Tuesday, captures both towers of the Golden Gate Bridge, neatly framed inside the barrel of a wave. Judging by the olive hue in the water, you could call this a dirty martini — crisp, briny, and just a little bold.

It’s not every day the ocean offers a private table with San Francisco’s most iconic duo. So here’s to a new kind of lunch meeting — one that’s wetter, weirder, and infinitely more fun. Cheers to the Two Martini Lunch.

I call this one Sunrise Glassworks. May 16, 2025. 6:40am, PT.

Looking closely into the lip of this wave, the details remind me of blown glass — the kind you’d see in a Murano fixture or something from Chihuly’s workshop. There’s texture, trapped air, and shape that seems frozen mid-movement. The light was just starting to come over the ridge, hitting both the trees and the sea surface at the right angle to bring out the blues, magentas, and early golds.

A late-season capture, this was my first keeper-image I captured using a new trigger mechanism built by a friend (thanks @willbbowes 🤙!!). Same camera, but a return to a trigger design that works for me while bodysurfing.

The sibling of Elkhorn captured just minutes afterwards on the same day. Something was going on in the atmosphere this day that gave the colors a darker, more violet-influenced and oily look which isn’t characteristic of my typical shots, so I considered The Bakery (aka Baker Beach) for being in a unique mood on this morning.

I call this one Ring. Saturday, October 5, 2024, 8:17am PT.   Sometimes, magic happens when you least expect it. The waves were generally non-existent and I had no expectations of coming home with anything special, though I still took the camera out for a splash. I’d read that morning that a friend and former co-worker had just gotten engaged on this beach and as I was thinking about that happy moment, The Bakery (aka Baker Beach) bumped up this beautiful wave — which I now call ring, due to the serendipity of my thoughts and the inverted liquid gem that points down from the wave’s lip to help frame the bridge.

I call this one Ring. Saturday, October 5, 2024, 8:17am PT.   Sometimes, magic happens when you least expect it. The waves were generally non-existent and I had no expectations of coming home with anything special, though I still took the camera out for a splash. I’d read that morning that a friend and former co-worker had just gotten engaged on this beach and as I was thinking about that happy moment, The Bakery (aka Baker Beach) bumped up this beautiful wave — which I now call ring, due to the serendipity of my thoughts and the inverted liquid gem that points down from the wave’s lip to help frame the bridge.

I call this one Wakin’ Up. Tuesday, November 3, 2020, 7:12am PT.

Not a promising start as viewed from shore — an onshore wind made the waves look junky, but the wind shifted while we were out and I managed to pull this sneak peak of the bridge on one of my last waves. A thin layer of water washing across part of the lens gives the bridge a blurry-eyed “Wakin’ Up” vibe while clearly presenting some nice definition on the shiny wall of the wave.

I call this one California Gold. Sunday, November 24, 2019, 4:26pm PT. Got the shots then watched my 49ers smoke the GB Packers…

I believe late-fall is the most beautiful time in San Francisco – especially at dawn and dusk. And the Pacific swell machine turns on this time of year which was the case in this day, with beautiful skies and bigger waves slamming The Bakery. I love the variance of light throughout this image, from the dark colors inside the wave to the brightness of the bridge and the shiny light reflecting on the underside of the foamy lip of the wave.

I’ll accept that definition in this case — with thousands of images from over 15 years in the water and none have produced a heart shape like this one did in early December, right after I committed to making art my primary focus. Kicking things off, I’m creating greeting card prints of select images in batched and signed editions - a 4x6 glossy print glued to a ~5x7 greeting card in a kit with envelope. Cards are blank on the inside for any occasion (though if you look closely, there’s a nice valentines theme card with a heart shaped wave framing the bridge) and handmade by me in the Outer Richmond of SF.

The card prints are currently for sale at a handful of local SF shops:
