2025 Holiday Gift Guide

A happy accident.

I have some newly crafted art coming to the Union Street Festival this weekend.

While making my Cold Water Coasters (which pair great with these), I found myself with a substantial amount of excess resin after each pour. Rather than waste it, I started experimenting.

The result: these one-of-a-kind serving trays.

Created in the process of making coasters and custom-fit into acacia wood serving trays, each piece is unique.

I’ll have just THREE available this weekend at the Union Street Fair.

Very excited about the @GoPro #gopromission1 camera, which I’ve been testing in the harsh shorebreak of #TheBakery this year. Got my first “official” shots this morning along with a piggy-back BTS video using HERO13 Black and Max Lens Mod 2.0.

Big thanks to @willbbowes for once-again whipping up the perfect camera harness to pair Mission 1 Pro with my trigger system.

Primo shooting season is kind of coming to an end - very stoked to get this beauty of a morning before summer fog and on-shores kick in. Been a weird weather year, so who knows - summer might end up being very photogenic!

I call these Winter Peak + Muir Beach and Winter Drop + Muir Beach.

I usually shoot with a GoPro in the shorebreak at Baker Beach, but this past winter I picked up a long lens for my DSLR and started bringing that setup with me when I take my dogs out for some beach time. I got the new lens for days like this: beautiful A-frame peaks, offshore winds, and a crystal-clear atmosphere that lets the coastline stretch for miles.

On this day, I was mostly focused on the surfers out front of Sloat Street while my dogs chased bird shadows on the bluff, but in my peripheral I kept seeing these peaks throwing big rainbow spray to the north. Every few waves, a burst of spray would pull my eye that way, and I’d swing the lens toward Muir Beach.

The first image, Winter Peak + Muir Beach, is one of those peaks lining up squarely with the town of Muir Beach in the background. The second, moments later, Winter Drop + Muir Beach, captures an unknown surfer dropping in on one of these beauties.

Both shot on my Canon EOS Rebel T7i with a Sigma 150–600mm. These are the first images I’ve added to my DSB collection that weren’t captured from the water.

On Sundays I play in a wood bat baseball league. No one’s rushing to sign me to the bigs, but I have fun. Before a recent practice, I went for a splash with the strike zone on my mind. There’s a saying in baseball: he who owns the inside owns the plate—a battleground between pitcher and hitter over a small piece of real estate. When I pulled this frame from my camera, it immediately took me to the inside corner—and what it takes to own it.

Instinct tells you to swim under a wave like this. To choose safety. The fun mind trick is overriding the human warning system and going anyway. When you do, something unexpected happens. The lip throws out so far that, as long as you’re not caught in it, the energy passes overhead, creating a large, quiet cavern for a moment before you bottom out into a giant powder keg explosion that spits you out the back and towards the next one.
